Ring announced the next generation battery doorbell on Wednesday. For $100, customers can get a battery that lasts longer, color night vision and a view from head to toe of visitors.
Previously, HD video from head-to-toe was only available on the Doorbell Plus or Pro models. Ring claims that the Battery Doorbell offers a 66% higher view of visitors than the Ring Video Doorbell 2nd Gen – the previous generation of Ring’s budget-friendly, battery-powered product. The 150-degree-by-150-degree field-of-view allows customers to get a top-to bottom view of their door, making it easy to identify which packages have just been delivered.
Head-to-toe viewing has become a standard feature of advanced video doorbells. Ring was among the first smart doorbells on the market, and it has been challenged by a number of new competitors. Ring has now brought its budget battery-powered doorbell in line with other competitors, such as Arlo and Google Nest, which all offer this feature.
Battery life on the new doorbell is also up to 23% more than that of the previous model. Ring has made it easier for customers to charge the battery by redesigning the mount system. This allows them to remove the device from the door with a push-pin.
The color night vision feature allows them to see clearly at any time of the day or night.
Ring’s doorbells are capable of sending motion notifications, providing a live video feed, enabling two way talk, and allowing customization of motion zones. Ring Protect, which costs $50 per year or $5 per month, allows users to receive alerts about packages and people and view 180 days of video.
Ring’s battery doorbell is now available to preorder on Ring.com or Amazon.com. It will be shipped to customers on September 4.
