OpenAI has signed a deal to bring stories from Conde Nast’s properties into OpenAI’s AI powered chatbot platform ChatGPT, and its search prototype SearchGPT.

The specific terms of partnership were not disclosed. In a Memo sent to staff, Conde Nast’s CEO Roger Lynch hinted that the “multiyear” deal would involve payment by OpenAI. A Conde Nast spokesperson told TechCrunch OpenAI would be allowed to train on Conde Nast material.

OpenAI declined to make a comment.

Conde Nast has become the latest news organization that has reached an agreement with OpenAI regarding how its works will be highlighted and used in OpenAI’s product. Among OpenAI’s other publishing partners are the Associated Press (AP), Axel Springer (The Atlantic), Financial Times, News Corp, and Time.

As my colleague Rebecca Bellan recently, certain deals were made without the input of the reporters and editors employed at the publications – much to the dismay of some of those workers.
