Samsung now has two new foldable smartphones on the market, the Galaxy Zfold 6 and Galaxy ZFlip 6. But according to Samsung executive Chung Yi, there will be even more.

Yi, speaking at the iMid 2024 Conference (via PhoneArena), said that “various product form factors such as multi-foldables, double-foldables, and rollables are currently being developed at Samsung.”

Samsung is likely to be the first to market these other designs, even though no date has been set for their launch. This is because Samsung was the pioneer of the foldable phone design.

Huawei is reportedly releasing a handset next month.

Long time coming

Samsung Display has already shown rollable screens

This news is not surprising to Samsung fans, as the company has a history of experimenting with new ideas and innovations before they are adopted by the general public – foldable smartphones being an example.

Samsung Display has already demonstrated rollable displays so we know that the technology is in development. The question is whether it can be mass produced at a reasonable price.

Previous rumors suggested that we could see a rollable smartphone as early as 2025. While this might seem a little optimistic as we approach 2024’s last third, these displays have been in the works for many years .

Some other phone makers have yet to commit to foldables. While rumors about a folding iPhone are still circulating, it does not appear that Apple is going to abandon the standard phone format for some time.
