Anthropic’s AI-powered app Claude, which has been available on iOS and Android for 16 weeks, has reached a significant milestone: it has surpassed $1 million in gross app revenue. According to new data from app intelligence company Appfigures, nearly half of this revenue was generated by U.S. users.
Claude is still far behind the top rival ChatGPT which is No. Downloads are ranked No. 1 and revenue is ranked No. 26. 26th by revenue in the U.S. for iOS. Claude is 95th by downloads in the Productivity category and 68th by revenue in that category.
Earlier this summer, we reported Claude’s mobile app received a tepid response in its first week of being available on the market. It only managed to garner 157,000 downloads worldwide. ChatGPT, which was launched exclusively in the U.S. on iOS, had 480,000 mobile app installations within the first five-day period. The highest ranking Claude achieved in the U.S. came a few weeks after its iOS debut, when it reached No. Appfigures reported at the time that Claude ranked 55 on the top charts of free iPhone apps.
Claude still managed to reach its first million dollar revenue faster than any other AI app competitor. Claude was far behind ChatGPT which reached this milestone in just three weeks. However, it was ahead of Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity which took 19 and 22 weeks respectively to reach the $1 million mark.
The U.S. is the largest market by downloads, followed by India (9.6%), Japan (6.6%), the U.K. (5.1%), and Germany (3.2%). These top five markets combined account for 57.2% Claude’s app installs.
The picture of Claude’s monetization is similar. Again, the U.S. dominates with a 48.4% revenue share. This is followed by Japan (6.8%), Germany (4.3%), the U.K. (4.3%), and South Korea (2.8%) for a combined 66.8%.
Claude’s mobile consumer market challenges will continue to be a challenge in the future, especially when Apple Intelligence launches and offers Siri users direct ChatGPT access via their iPhones.
