Formula One teams are looking to a startup named BeyondMath for their car construction to reach the next level.

BeyondMath works in the field computational fluid dynamics. This is an attempt to digitally model the movement of an object through water or air. It’s easier said than done. Even with excessive computing power these digital representations are not entirely accurate. BeyondMath is different because it simulates windy conditions using machine learning and not just supercomputers. This could make the models more accurate.

Darren Garvey, co-founder of BeyondMath, told TechCrunch: “Imagine that you have six months to design a component for a plane. You might only get 20 attempts at a simulation, given that it takes so long. If a designer has an idea and can get results in seconds or minutes, you could run a million different changes within six months.

Today’s TechCrunch Minute explains why professional race cars teams are looking at this startup’s technology in order to make their vehicles aerodynamic.
